Goose on the Loose

I created this quilt to utilize the my new favorite pattern, Flying Geese. I thought that since geese follow each other, what is more fun that putting them in a maze so they can find their way out. So, here we go....Goose on the Loose.

Using the easy flying geese method by Eleanor Burns, Quilt in a Day  and a simple maze pattern I created this quilt.

Let's get started, it may look complicated, but it is actually quite simple.  I completed it in a few weeks and that's with my entergetic 4 year old daughter. 

I started by creating all the flying geese using the 4x6 flying geese pattern.  If you notice in the actual quilt, I used all bright colors for the flying geese. I wanted a good contrast against the black maze pattern.   There is one flying geese that I used white on, just thought that one should stand out above the rest.

The stack of squares to start the flying geese, no I didn't use all of these. I have plently left to make another quilt, if I become crazy and need a special project to work on.

 After all that, look a perfect flying geese....

That's a lot of flying geese. 368 actually. Hey, what's that spoon doing there.  Must have been having a snack after all that work.

 Flying Geese stacked up high.  I think the cutting was the hardest part, well now that is done.

 Match them up two per, to make a square, and stitch them up. Yes, lots of sewing in this project.

 While this looks like a mess, it's time to assemble the rows.  I mark the baggies with my rows and place the rows in order and into the bag.  

 One row done, just need to sew together.

This is my template I use to make sure I'm putting my rows together correctly.

 Woohoo..a couple of rows done.  That went together pretty good....let's do more.

 Sorry, I didn't take more pictures of the rows in progress, it went together pretty fast.  I finished the rows in two evenings.  Usually only had a couple of hours to work on it after my daughter went to bed.
the borders.  I inserted a flying geese set in the corner to complete the look.

 Sneak peak of the quilt, I think it looks pretty good.

 Well I didn't have anywhere to really hang it up to see the whole view, but here it is.  It's not quilted yet, I'll get that finished up soon.

After it's all quilted.   Used this as my Christmas Exchange gift which was fun.  I had boxed into several wrapped boxes. Didn't want to give it away.  My sister, Misti, ended up winning this.

I did enjoy making this quilt.  If you notice the flying geese follow the correct path of the maze.  There is a method to my madness afterall.    Well, off to my next project.
